As part of National Kidney Month, Pollo Tropical® is partnering with the National Kidney Foundation in an awareness and fundraising campaign. Beginning March 4, the brand will donate $1 for every pie slice purchased through March 17 to the National Kidney Foundation of Florida. Guests can choose from Key Lime Pie, Cheesecake or Pecan Pie, through orders placed at the restaurant, placed online for pick up, or for the brand’s convenient new delivery option. Additionally, Pollo Tropical will promote National Kidney Month at all participating restaurants, and also partner with the Foundation’s Florida Kidney Walk events in March.
In the United States, 30 million adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease, and most aren’t aware of it. One in three adults in America are at risk for chronic kidney disease. Risk factors for kidney disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and family history. People of African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, or Pacific Islander descent are at increased risk for developing the disease. Hispanics are nearly 1.5 times more likely than non-Hispanics to develop end stage renal disease (kidney failure).
“We’re hoping that through our partnership with the National Kidney Foundation, we will significantly raise awareness of their initiatives and needed funds for the organization to expand its mission to fight kidney disease,” said Danny Meisenheimer, President of Pollo Tropical®. “We’re urging all of our guests to become involved and participate with us in the campaign and the Kidney Walk events.”
“The Kidney Foundation of Florida is proud to have Pollo Tropical as a new community partner in furthering our initiatives in the communities the brand serves,” said Savanna Lanza, President of the Kidney Foundation of Florida. “The popularity of Pollo Tropical will open up many doors for us to communicate the Foundation’s National Kidney Month message.
